THE OLA / BRODART AWARD FOR TECHNICAL SERVICE

The Ontario Library Association, along with Brodart Canada, recognizes the Ontario librarian, teacher-librarian, technician, library worker or department who has made a substantial achievement to their institution and/or the library profession in the area of technical services. This award is about recognizing those who help with the efficiencies and improved access to materials. Awards like this foster innovation, create an environment to share ideas and support high morale among technical service workers. Keys areas of contribution that could be, but not limited to, considered for a nominee(s) are:

  1. ADVANCEMENT. Contribution to the technical services field through the development, application and/or utilization of new and/or improved formats, methods, techniques, equipment and routines.

  2. LEADERSHIP. Significant contribution to the technical services profession through involvement in organizations, publication or research. Implentation of a special project, program or service.

  3. CAREER ACHIEVEMENT. Individuals who have made long-standing contributions to the profession who deserve recognition by peers.

  4. MENTORING. Training and professional mentoring in the field of technical services.

Criteria

  • Nominee's should be or have been employed in an Ontario library, though non-Ontario experience and contribution will be recognized in the submission.

  • The nominee should be an example of a technical services employee who has raised the profile of this sector of the library profession.

Other Considerations

  • Nominations may not be made by the individual nominated. Nominators should be members of the organization. There is no requirement for the Nominee to be an OLA member.

  • While this award is designed for an individual it is possible for a department to be nominated and considered.

  • Letters of endorsement are encouraged and should provide additional evidence of the worthiness of the nominee.

  • One award will be given out annually. The Selection Committee reserves the right to recommend more than one be given; and the right not to recommend.

Selection


An Awards Selection Committee, appointed by the OLA Board of Directors, will evaluate the submissions received and make a recommendation to the OLA Executive Committee.

Presentation


The Award will be presented in conjunction with the Award Ceremony of the recipient type of library. For example, if a public library is a recipient it will be presented at the Public Library Awards Event. The winning project/person will also be profiled in Access Magazine.
