Volunteering for Super Conference

The annual OLA Super Conference is attended by well over 4500 delegates and each year volunteers are involved in several ways. To follow are the key volunteer opportunities associated with the Super Conference and when recruitment occurs.

    * Super Conference Planning Team – this team consists of two representatives from each division. This is a two year term with one incoming and one seasoned member sitting on the planning team each year. The Super Conference Planning Team meets a few times a year both in person and via teleconference.  - recruitment takes place in January/February (1st meeting at the Super Conference)

    * Session Convenors - Session Convenors are conference registrants who wish to volunteer to introduce and convene sessions for their division. Call for convenors by the Super conference Planning Committee goes to the divisions in the Fall

    * Student (see below) Volunteers - call to the schools goes out in the Fall

    * Career Centre -  Experienced members who are registered for the conference are recruited as volunteers to critique resumes, conduct mock interviews, and career mentor on site at the conference Career Centre. Many students, new professionals and members wishing to have guidance in possible career changes use these services regularly. - call goes out in late Fall

    * Human Library - A spin on the typical Human Library as this is a career focused Human Library. "Books" are recruited from members who have taken their library degrees/diplomas in many different directions. - call out for 'books' in the Fall. Registration to borrow books will happen in January once the books are established.

OLA has a long and mutually beneficial relationship with students enrolled in full-time library programs in Ontario. Volunteering at the annual conference offers you an excellent opportunity to meet future employers, network with library information workers in a wide range of positions, visit the exhibits, and attend workshops. Browse the conference website for the full range of programs and services open to you.

In return for signing up as a student volunteer, your conference registration is free and includes all aspects of the conference except the Public Library dinner and the Saturday Gala Luncheon. Tickets for dinner ($65) and the luncheon ($60) can be purchased separately.
