Readers' Advisory Core Competencies

One of the principal functions of the Committee is to raise the standards and strengthen the guidelines for readers’ advisory services province-wide. To this end, the Committee developed a set of four core competencies for readers’ advisory service in 2009.The Committee is currently working on a toolkit related to these competencies. The work on the four major sections of this toolkit will be posted on the website as they are completed. The committee hopes that the competencies and related toolkit will be valuable to readers’ advisors for writing public service job descriptions, for hiring and evaluating staff, and for planning training opportunities that will ensure staff develop (or enhance) the specific skills and behaviors for successful service provision.
