Leadership in Adult Readers' Advisory


OPLA’s Award for Leadership in Adult Readers’ Advisory is an initiative of the Readers’ Services Sub-Committee of OPLA.  The purpose of this award is to honour excellence in readers' advisory service to adults.

Criteria



Nominees for this award will be evaluated in the following areas:
  • membership in OLA (required)
  • enhanced service to adult readers in their community 
  • strong advocacy for readers' advisory services 
  • active involvement in the public library profession 
  • innovation in delivery of readers' advisory services
  • helping others acquire readers' advisory skills 
 

Nomination Procedure 

  • Nominations open February 2016.
  • What to include: To assist the committee in determining the recipient of the award nominators are encouraged to include information on the achievements for which the nominee should be honoured, including recognition received from peers and from others. The detail provided should be sufficient to ensure the committee has a clear understanding of the nominees skills, service and leadership related to Readers’ Advisory and other important or key consideration. 

Selection:


  • A sub-committee comprising members of OPLA's Readers' Advisory Committee and two other members of OPLA will make the selection.
  • Supervisors and co-workers of nominees are not eligible to sit on the selection committee. 
  • The committee will review all nominations based on the criteria and make their recommendation to the OLA Board of Directors through the Ontario Public Library Association Council.
 

Award Presentation

    • The winner of the award will be notified prior to the Ontario Library Association’s Super Conference and be acknowledged at the OLA Super Conference 
    • The recipient will be honoured and presented with the award at the ‘RA in a Day’ event in the fall
